It’s only the 22nd and my brain has turned into a mince pie. I don’t mean this metaphorically — it has actually turned into a mince pie, as shown in the photo that accompanies this post. And because my brain has turned into a mince pie I can’t think very well. And because I can’t think very well I can’t write very well either. If I was a clever person I’d use this opportunity to take a proper break from writing, at least until my brain stops being a mince pie, perhaps by the second or third week of January. But since I’m not a clever person, and because I write under the superstitious suspicion that if I stop writing even just for a day something terrible will happen, I can’t stop trying to put words on pages, even if I know I’ll do it badly. The question then — when you can’t write very well, because you can’t think very well, because your brain has turned into a mince pie — is what to write about?
