Memoirs

They are everywhere, aren't they?

This image has absolutely nothing to do with the topic of this post. But aren’t trains pretty? Someone should write a memoir about them.

I have long been haunted by the idea of Borges’s Library of Babel. If you haven’t read this story yet I beg you to stop reading this and head here and read it first, in its finest translation, by Norman Thomas Di Giovanni. This infinite library, which to many book lovers would be akin to Paradise is for me one of the best representations of Hell ever produced. Hell not because of the impossibility of reading all these books in our limited lifespan — I don’t like books that much — but because this infinity would also mean an infinite number of memoirs.
