What is this?

The Leftovers is published once a week. Expect literary and cultural criticism, chronicles, essays, and writing about writing (no grift), among other things. If you want to get a better idea of what this space is about go and check out the archive, read away — there’s plenty of free stuff published here.

I also run creative reading sessions for premium subscribers (more on that below).

Who are you?

I am the author of several books, including We Are but Nothing (Rough Trade Books), JOLTS (Influx Press), Grey Tropic (Dostoyevsky Wannabe), and Shitstorm (Open Pen). In July 2013 I launched literary journal Minor Literature[s] and edited it until July 2023. My fiction and critical work has been published widely both online and in print, in venues such as The Guardian, Open Democracy, Los Angeles Review of Books, 3:AM Magazine, London Magazine, Gorse, among others, and it’s been translated into French, Italian, Turkish, Norwegian, Arabic, Bosnian and Spanish. In 2021 I won the London Magazine Short Story prize. That’s about it. But Google can tell you more.

The Reading Clinic

The Reading Clinic embraces creative reading as an essential and often overlooked counterpart to writing.

We meet online the last Friday or Saturday of each month, to analyse and unpack a text, in an informal setting. Ideal for writers, translators and editors, and anyone who wants to read creatively.
